Europcar International appoints new CEO

Salvatore Catania ( 49 ) Managing Director of Europcar Italy has been appointed by the Volkswagen Group, as CEO of Europcar International S.A., Paris, effective as of January 1st. 2003.
He will succeed Michael Kern who will leave Europcar International to take on a CEO position outside the car rental and automotive industry.
Salvatore Catania, a Sicily born Italian, has longstanding experiences in the car rental and leasing business. He joined Europcar Italy in 1974 and became General Manager as of 1995. Under his responsibility he developed the car rental business as well as the leasing significantly and positioned the Europcar Group Italy as the market leader.
Under Catania's leadership, Europcar Italy has become the best performing country in the Europcar Group with a turnover of 475 Million Euros.
Since 2000, when Volkswagen AG became 100% Shareholder of Europcar International, Salvatore Catania developed the specific Europcar leasing division as part of the multi-branded Europcar Fleet Service, a subsidiary of Volkswagen Financial Services, to a profitable and well positioned service company in Italy.
With Salvatore Catania there will be an international experienced car rental and leasing specialist at the driver seat of the leading international car rental company with European origin. Moreover, the appointment of Salvatore Catania is also a characteristic example of an inter-company management career within the Europcar and Volkswagen Group.
Europcar currently has a network of 123 countries in Europe, Middle-East, Africa, Asia Pacific and South America, with 2685 locations and a fleet of more than 200 000 vehicles.
